Dr Henk Bekedam, WHO Representative to India is a Dutch national and a medical doctor. He has an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.
Dr Bekedam's earlier positions have been WHO Representative to Egypt, Director of Health Sector Development, WHO Western Pacific Region; WHO Representative to China. He has also held senior positions in Cambodia and Africa.
Dr Bekedam's areas of specialization include responding to health emergencies e.g. avian flu outbreak in humans in Egypt and SARS outbreak in China, Universal Health Coverage, health sector reform, health planning, financing, human resources, information systems, pharmaceuticals, antimicrobial resistance, AIDS, tuberculosis, tobacco control, chronic diseases.
